I have Returned to the City
Pen and ink on paper

"On my 21st birthday i visted the National Gallery in London for the first time.
It was a transformative day for me. Not only because it gave me the opportunitiy to see works by Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh, Michelangelo, Raphael and so many other heroes of mine in person . . . but, also, because it was actually the first time i had been able to visit London in about 5 years. And, honestly, there were times when i never thought i'd get there again.
So, this drawing was essentially to commemorate that day.
The moment when i emerged from the National gallery - and looked out over trafalgar square, as if with new eyes.
Thus, i titled it "I Have Returned to The City".
To signify a literal return to my home city.
And, a kind of metaphorical "return" too. I.e, a return to life. And a return to myself."
